Design Brief — "Bab al-Malik Abdulaziz" Layered Relief Ring Prepared for: CAD jeweler / 3D modeler Deliverable wanted from you: print-ready 3D model (STL + native, e.g. 3DM/Matrix) for lost-wax casting, plus a rendered preview for approval Style reference: architectural "skyline" cast rings (engraved-relief band, open or closed shank) 1. Summary A gold statement ring depicting the King Abdulaziz Gate (Bab al-Malik Abdulaziz) of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, rendered as a multi-layer relief with real front-to-back depth — not a flat engraved silhouette. The whole scene wraps the front face of a tapered band in the architectural-skyline tradition. The single most important requirement: the composition must read in three distinct depth planes. This is a sculpted relief, not a 2D etch. 2. The composition (critical — please follow the layering exactly) Looking at the front of the ring, left to right: FOREGROUND (closest to viewer, highest relief, sharpest, most polished) The green-and-gold ornate royal gate on the left side of the face. Gray-marble pier framing a green recessed portal with a pointed (ogee) arch and a gold cresting/edge band. Three pointed-arch openings at its base. A single tall minaret immediately to the right of the gate, standing proud of everything else. This is the visual hero. It should physically overlap the gate slightly and cast a shadow onto the layer behind it. Octagonal white shaft, a corbelled muezzin gallery with railing partway up, a bulbous (onion) cap, a thin finial topped with a crescent. MIDGROUND (set back, medium relief, slightly recessed plane, matte finish) The Holy Kaaba positioned to the right of the minaret, close to the centre of the face, but on a clearly lower/recessed plane so it sits behind the minaret. Plain cube, a raised horizontal band (the kiswah belt) about two-thirds up. Keep it deliberately simple and matte so it does not compete with the foreground detail. BACKGROUND (furthest back, lowest relief, flattest, slightly darkened/recessed) The King Abdullah expansion of the Grand Mosque as a low-relief backdrop spanning the full width behind the gate, minaret and Kaaba: a long arcaded colonnade of repeated pointed arches with two slender modern minarets at the outer ends. This plane should be shallow and softened so it visually recedes. Depth cues the modeler should build in: At least three stepped relief heights (foreground ≈ 1.8–2.2 mm proud, midground ≈ 1.0–1.3 mm, background ≈ 0.4–0.6 mm). The minaret should undercut/overlap the gate edge and the Kaaba so the eye reads true depth. Cast shadow recesses behind the minaret and beside the Kaaba. 3. Reference material to attach when you send this out The photograph of Bab al-Malik Abdulaziz (twin white minarets, gray marble façade, green-gold portal) — architecture accuracy comes from this photo. The "No. 02" concept image (layered depth layout) — use this for composition/layering only, not proportions. The original skyline-ring examples — use these for the overall band style, relief feel, and finish. Tell the jeweler: photo = architecture truth; concept = layout intent; skyline rings = style/finish. 4. Finishing Foreground (gate + minaret): high polish; gold accents on gate cresting can be left bright. Kaaba: matte / lightly sandblasted, flat — must stay calm against the detail. Background expansion: soft satin, slightly darkened/recessed so it reads as distance. Optional: a discreet engraving inside the shank (name / date / short inscription) — must not alter the silhouette. 6. Technical / CAD notes Minimum wall and detail thickness suitable for casting in gold — no knife edges; minaret finial and crescent cast slightly heavy, or model the crescent as a separately solderable part to avoid breakage. Keep arch openings genuinely pierced where shown, but maintain enough metal bridge for structural strength on the band. Smallest engraved detail should not go below the foundry's safe minimum (confirm with your caster, typically ~0.3 mm). Provide the model oriented for clean printing/casting with minimal supports on visible faces. 7. What to deliver back Greyscale render(s) of front + 3/4 view for client approval before finalizing. After approval: print-ready STL + editable native file. Recommended casting weight in the chosen karat. Brief is open to proportional adjustment — the layering, the green gate on the left, the foreground minaret, the recessed Kaaba near centre, and the expansion as background are the fixed requirements. Everything else can be refined for beauty and castability.
